Hide Hiruma, GIS Analyst
Hide conducts spatial analyses to support green infrastructure community planning at GIC, using his 15+ years of experience as a GIS analyst, web developer, and data science instructor. He is mapping land cover for multiple states in the U.S.
Born and raised in Japan, he moved to the United States to attend a college in California. He earned the Master’s degree in Environmental Studies at the University of Pennsylvania and another Master’s degree in Geography at the University of Iowa. He has applied his domain expertise in energy, forestry, and water resources to work for the United Nations Environment Programme, US EPA, Nature Conservancy, Bridgewater College, Bootcamp GIS, and Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative.
In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters, growing organic foods at a community garden, and cooking for family and friends.
