A Guide to Urban Forest Plans: Are you ready to create an urban forest plan?

October 13, 2023 by Lauren

Webinar: Nov 14, 2023; 1:00 – 2:00 pm EST

Planners, Urban Foresters, and City Leaders are invited to join the South Carolina Forestry Commission and the Green Infrastructure Center for a webinar on Urban Forest Plans. Come learn about the benefits of planning for and managing the urban forest as well as the different types of urban forest plans. We will share a self-assessment tool for communities to determine where their urban forestry program falls in a tiered system and what the next steps are for strengthening their program. We will discuss what data a community should have to inform their urban forest plan and a recommended planning sequence. Finally, we will discuss components of a plan and the planning process. We will be joined by Jeremy Harold of Harrisonburg, VA and Jessi Shuler of Summerville, SC who have created urban forest plans for their city to gain insight into the process, lessons learned, and benefits of planning. Attendees will receive a free guide with best practices for different urban forest plans, what to include in your plan and how to write your request for bids to get the type of plan you need to manage your urban forest. This webinar will provide 1 free AICP education credit.
